Money is Finite
By: Tom B | March 29th, 2009This is an important title. Money is finite, and when you’re managing the very semi-professional Santa Eulalia, money is very finite.
I’ll be honest, at the start of the game, I didn’t realise how dire our financial situation was. So when our best (and best by some way) goalkeeper was contractless, I thought I’d sign him on full time (for about EU150 pw). The rest of my squad are on about EU45 per wee. This was particularly selfish as I am a goalkeeper and we look after our own. I then found our best defender and put him on a full time contract as well. Now they won’t change back, they’ve got used to the big bucks and I’m paying EU200 per week more than I should be. In addition, I’ve signed another scout. This is an expense I feel is justified as I have to find players that will advance my little club and turn it into a big club.

My solution – find a parent club. Easy, get paid 20-30k a year to give people first option on promising, 15 year old penalty taking youngsters. What a deal, a deal which no club in the footballing world was interested in. I can’t see why, I have plenty of midfielders even worse than Hector. What is worse is that the board won’t let me ask again.

So I pay out some youngsters, sack my coaches (I only have a dodgy ass man left), transfer list 3 of my 22 man squad. Even still, I’m way over my wage budget and am in debt.

I see this as a huge issue, I can not afford to fail as this club can not afford to fail.

The one bright side to this financial dilemma… I don’t think they can afford to sack me and pay out my contract.
