I huffed and I puffed…

… and their house stayed intact.

For once, I started the match almost as favourites went in with an unchanged team, and was quietly told them that they could win tonight.

We got off to a flyer as Hector smashed the ball in from the corner of the area. I knew I quite liked him. All was going well, I’d managed to hit the woodwork 3 times, they hadn’t got a shot away on target and I was cruising. The screen shot is where Hector took the shot from.

All was going well that is, until Manuel (II) put the ball into his own net by blocking a Ruiz clearance. Disaster, they haven’t had a shot on goal, so the AI must have cheated. (Except when you view it in light of this goal here).

So despite the “Denia are having to withstand heavy pressure”, and Santa Eulalia “are piling on the pressure”, our conjuring 17 shots at goal, and 2 clear cut chances, we were not able to breach their goal, and it remained a frustrating 1-1. I can’t really complain, because I’ve frustrated for 1-1 this season.

So, silly defensive errors have cost me plenty of points this season, maybe I need to hire better centre halves, maybe I need to hire better everyone, or maybe Santa Eulalia need to hire a better manager (we’ll see what the board says at the end of this month).

As an aside, I was looking what the fans are saying on message boards and football blog sites like www.theoffside.com they were pleased with the 1-1 draw,

and they don’t really like Jose Ruiz

PS – Given the number of injuries I’ve been getting I’ve dropped the training schedules for all players by 10 notches.
