Full time wages… amateur hour

By: Tom B | June 10th, 2009

In my match against Sabadell, I experimented. I kept the lop sided formation, even with a tired David Gonzales at Left Wing Back, gave the first start to the 16 year old Fransisco and littered my pitch with converted centre halves. Excellent in theory.

These are the two key moments of the match:

However, it didn’t quite work out as planned. In the opening exchanges I was able to get the ball forward, but with no quality in the crossing (I’m looking at you Fransisco) and then I was hit by the ultimate in route one football. To this moment I still have no idea why Valenzuela didn’t come off his line. He sat there like some kind of meditative monk. Only to allow their striker to slot it past him. He doesn’t have a low mentality setting, so I can only assume it was an error, and a costly one at that. I don’t pay you a full time wage (which I can in no way afford) to sit on your line and twiddle your thumbs.

They emphatically controlled the first 76 odd minutes, with the only shots I was able to muster being long shots. Then I changed it up, bringing on Garcia Ruiz as a rubbish AMC, shifting off Bleda as my DMC. I also removed Manuel (II) for Adolfo, giving him another chance up front. A chance he took with aplomb. He seemed to win everything in the air, link up, shoot… and miss a sitter in the 85th minute. This was quite frustrating as I dominated the game for the last 15 minutes, I even got the commentary to say Sabadell are having to withstand heavy pressure. I wasn’t however, able to breach their goal, and as such dropped more points.

Unfortunately it stayed 0-1, and the 488 home fans went home disappointed. But I took heart from this match. We can match it with teams, and when I start getting some players back, watch out world. The Santa Eulalians are marching on.

Positives to come from this match include:
Francisco no being outclassed (somehow) and getting a 6.8. Adolfo coming on from the subs bench and having a real impact as a target man. No injuries

Weston requested I put up the league table, and I really need a win, but the situation is not dire yet.
